It’s excellent location in the heart of Dalmatia, it’s crystal and warm Adriatic water, it’s carefully tended enviroment and many cultural, entertainment and sports events make Makarska Riviera one of the most popular tourist destinations of Croatia.
The center of region is old town of Makarska, which has an excellent setting beside a horseshoe-shaped bay. It has always been the most important town of the surrounding region known as Makarska Riviera, both in administrative, political and economic sense, as well as a center of culture, education and tourism.
The town was founded by the ancient Greeks, has a traditional harbor which serves as the focal point for its long fishing tradition and provides access to the beautiful islands that straddle the coastline. The stone-clad streets and terracotta rooftops are typical of the traditional villages found in the area, but today’s Makarska is also the cosmopolitan and thriving centre of the Riviera with numerous cafes, restaurants and boutiques.

The Makarska Riviera climate is characterized by long and warm summers and mild winters with 2750 hours of sunshine annually. During more than 40 days of the year, the temperature is over 30°C (86°F) and average monthly temperature of the sea in July is 25°C (77°F). Pleasant climate of Makarska Riviera is result of really characteristic wind called Maestral, which blows from the sea, bringing fresher and during the night Maestral is replaced with Burin, which cools heated ground.
Makarska Riviera is home to some of the Croatian loveliest stretches of beach and it’s no wonder why. Beaches in this region are backed by fragrant pinewoods overlooking the glistering turquoise sea that feels like heaven for your body and mind. They are considered to be one of the major attractions of Croatia and some of the most scenic places of the Adriatic Coast.
Apart from the sea and the sun, here you can enjoy healthy and appetizing Mediterranean food such as fish and seafood, chard, tomatoes and olive oil.
